About us...Dread Fixations was birthed in NZ in 2009 and is now in Byronshire - Australia also. It has since serviced and nurtured a solid dread community in Tauranga where people have travelled from far and wide for more than just dread work.

Our Tauranga studio now consists of a 2-3 person team of locticians trained by Ali to a high standard and now owned and operated by Kate from her welcoming home near the beach.
And as of 2021 we are excited to announce the family has expanded to Australia where Ali will be taking her skills and knowledge to start afresh.

Technique:
All we use is a crochet hook and a backcomb.
Along the way of our travels and experience we have met many people with dreads and found many weird and wonderful ways to dread, deciding to avoid the bad and learn from the good we now have an awesome and unique method of forming dreads. This involves no nasty products (wax, glue, perming solution). We also do not loop through dreads which can be very problematic.
We specialise in fixing up malformed, self formed or otherwise unruly dreads. We can pull in loops and loose hair, separate, truncate, extend, split, join or reattach dreads, as well as adding extra dreads in for extra volume or length. We also create dreads from scratch. All this is done with the help of our trusty crochet hook and a heap of practise and patience. Furthermore we are very speedy. Years of experience has allowed us to refine our technique to a point where a root fix will have you in and out in a couple of hours and not needing to revisit for 3 months or more until your hair has regrown.

All dreadlocks are individual and we will be happy to have a free consultation and talk through how we can work with your hair to create your own unique style as well as answer any questions you may have.
